Blog commenting as a network builder
July 3rd, 2009 written by Jeff Hershberger
Yesterday I put up a post on my personal blog about my quest to find a blogreader (whether an application or an online service) that would allow me to read the comments along with the posts I'm reading. In talking about it with Heidi, she reminded me of a post she'd written some time ago about how blog commenting builds your reputation. And, as if on cue, there's a lengthy and highly relevant discussion in the comments on that post. (This is starting to feel a bit like a blog dog chasing its own tail and finally catching it!)
I've brought this up in many places over the last couple months. Even The WELL, normally a deep reservoir of expertise on these matters, couldn't help. At the launch party we held last week for this site and the eBook, I brought it up in the Social Media 101 breakout group. In passing, Dominic Litten mentioned Google Wave as a possible solution to this problem, but I guess that remains to be seen. We don't have answers for everything, and I'm open to suggestions!
